Let’s talk about innovation.
More specifically… artificial intelligence.
It’s everywhere. It’s moving fast. And whether we like it or not, it’s reshaping almost every industry we know.
So let me ask you this: are you intimidated?
Do you truly understand the shift that’s happening right in front of us?
Because this isn’t just about technology anymore. It’s about how we work, how we think, how we create, and how we stay relevant in a world that’s evolving at an incredible pace.
I remember back in 2024, when I attended a programme called the Digital Economy Innovation Hub. That experience really opened my eyes. It wasn’t just about learning new tools — it was about understanding the power behind them. Especially AI. The possibilities were exciting, but also a little uncomfortable, because it forced me to rethink how we approach work and innovation.
One thing that stood out to me is this:
We’re so quick to use these tools, but we don’t take enough time to train them to work for us to reflect our thinking, our voice, our goals, and our creativity. We adopt AI easily, but we don’t always use it intentionally.
Yes, there are sectors that are struggling because of AI. That’s real, and it shouldn’t be ignored. But sometimes it feels like we’re not scared of AI itself — we’re scared of innovation. We’re scared of change. And because of that fear, we fail to see how these tools are already shaping so many aspects of our lives, from data and decision-making to creativity and efficiency.
Data, after all, is one of the greatest teachers we have.
And I firmly believe that experience is an even stronger one.
It’s no different with AI.
Instead of resisting it, we need to find ways to utilise these innovations to sharpen our skills, not replace them. To work smarter, not smaller. To grow, adapt, and stay curious.
AI is not here to take away who we are — it’s here to challenge us to become better at what we do. But that only happens if we choose to engage with it, learn from it, and guide it with intention.
Innovation isn’t the enemy.
Fear is.
And the real shift begins when we choose to move forward anyway.
Let’s meet at the Durban Exhibition Centre from 19–21 March 2026 and engage in this conversation further.
