Tell us who you are, what you do, and the name of your brand or creative work.

“Hi. I am Tarah Van Wyk, the owner and magic maker at ‘Magpie Calls’. I design and hand-make from scratch Bridal and Special Occasion Accessories.
I am known for my headpieces, but also make a variety of beautiful earrings, necklaces and belts. All my pieces are hand sewn, wired and beaded into unique pieces for those who know their style and flair needs something special.”

Why is visibility at platforms like Kwande Fest important for small businesses today?

“Platforms like Kwande Fest are a great way for small businesses to get direct access, not only to clientele, but also to connect with other creatives and potential collaborators in the industry. It is all about the networking and learning more to enhance your brand.”

How would you describe your brand or design style?

“Magpie Calls as a brand is all about celebrating our unique qualities, with high end crafted designs. Celebrating the special moments in our lives, from weddings, maternity shoots/baby showers, milestone birthdays, red carpets, events and more.
Every piece made has its ‘person’ in mind. Their style, their flair, their personality. From demure to full out bold and over the top, Magpie Calls can accessorise your life with our brand of magic.
We also specialise in Custom designs, so you know you are getting something that no-one else will have. We want our clients to shine wherever they wear a Magpie Calls design.”

What message would you share with creatives entering the industry today?

“Being a creative entrepreneur is not easy. We give a piece of ourselves, our creative heart each time we create something. This can make the ‘business’ of our brands harder as it is harder to disconnect from the creative heart when difficult decisions have to be made.
BUT it also makes us passionate and go-getters, who want to share beauty and the things we love with the world. We just have to remember that the ‘unfun’ stuff is just as important and allows us to grow and build.”
